Member Testimonials

The Alumni Society was established with a simple and critical goal: connect Latino executives who graduated from top universities and advance Latino leadership in corporate America.

Our mission is to rewrite vague ideas about diversity and inclusion as tangible, actionable steps. Since our launch, we’ve proven through events, media, and the quality of our membership that The Alumni Society provides a valuable and necessary service. The best spokespeople for The Alumni Society are our members. Hear why our society is valuable to a few of our high-caliber executives.

Inspired to Act

“The Leadership Summit allows me to network with exceptional executives who happen to be Latinas and Latinos. The Alumni Society has been a source of guidance and inspiration. When asked to chair the board of directors of Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, I accepted the role to help address the stigma of mental illness in California’s Latino communities and to follow The Alumni Society’s advice to begin preparing for future BOD roles by gaining governance experience with non-profit operating agencies.”

Carlos E. Garcia

Partner In Charge, Heidrick & Struggles | Columbia University

“Last year’s gathering inspired me to think about how we Latino professionals have to continue opening doors for ourselves and others in leadership roles. So, when nominated for a board of director’s position with NALP, I didn’t refuse. Attending The Alumni Society’s events will give me access to the knowledge, support, and further inspiration from our network to take on the challenge of board membership!”

Opportunities to Connect

“I learned early on that I can’t do it alone. When I was visiting San Francisco, The Alumni Society made an introduction between Eliana Murillo from Google, and myself, and she’s been a great supporter and collaborator. Similarly, our newest Latina advisory board member and the highest ranking Latina at Lyft, Veronica Juarez, became involved after meeting, thanks to being connected by The Alumni Society. That’s what the organization is so good at, and we want to be part of driving wealth innovation for this very network.”

Marcos Gonzalez

Founder, VamosVentures | Brown University and Harvard University

“I’ve been lucky enough to lead teams ranging from a few people to over 10,000 and the advice to surround yourself with great leaders always held true. That’s why I am honored to serve as an Alumni Society ambassador and why I’ve blocked my calendar to participate again at this year’s summit. Make it happen; you won’t regret it!”

Innovative Events

The power of connection rests in the active connecting with others in a space conducive to rich discussion on the emergent issues pertaining to the growth, influence, and advancement of Hispanics in corporate America. I connected with leaders at The Alumni Society’s Leadership Summits, and I avidly look forward to re-connecting and making new connections to ‘power up’ my network through meaningful interaction with fellow Hispanic leaders who seek to make a difference in the corporate workspace and the community.”

Alberto Ortega

Senior Director of Strategic Account Management, Sodexo | University of Chicago

“I attended my first Alumni Society event in San Francisco. I came away from that event truly inspired by the personal stories of Latinos who shared a common thread with me. They all have surpassed several challenges to attend the most prestigious educational institutions and remained absolutely proud of their heritage, their roots, and wanted to give back. Thanks to The Alumni Society, I celebrated some old friendships and connected to some wonderful new individuals. I am excited to meet even more amazing Latino leaders!”

Building Your Network

“I just completed the National Association of Corporate Director (NACD), Global Board Leaders’ Summit. I am so grateful to The Alumni Society’s [2016 Leadership Summit] Director’s Roundtable Panel featuring Aida Alvarez, Victor Arias, Thomas Castro, Adela Cepeda, Elizabeth Nieto, and Luis Nieto, for demystifying the process of joining a corporate board and encouraging us to take action.”

Ed Rivera

Head of Product Management & CEO Advisor, TouchTunes Interactive Networks | Harvard University and Stanford University

“The Alumni Society connected me with a number of top professionals including two highly successful general counsel during a recent trip to New York. I left those meetings highly motivated and with admiration for Ricardo Anzaldua, who shared his views on becoming a successful legal leader and Melissa Garza, who helped me re-focus on my career goals. It’s great to be part of an organization that genuinely and actively seeks to promote Latinos as leaders in their profession.”
