Meet Marcelo Cruz

An ongoing series from The Alumni Society spotlighting its impressive members

Alma mater: University of Pennsylvania | Location: Westchester County, New York

Where are you from?

Born in Veracruz, but really from Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.

What do you do?

Co-founder of elery.co, a tech-enabled network of clinics reinventing specialty care in Mexico. With our two brands clinicasdelhombre.com and aliviatudolor.com we have engaged with roughly 400,000 people, treated more than 22,000 patients, administered more than 5,000 doses of HPV vaccines to men, and performed more than 1,000 surgeries to middle and lower-middle class Mexicans. I lead the Marketing, Finance, Tech, and Online Patient Experience teams.

What is a career accomplishment you’re proud of?

After 6 years of a successful career in management consulting, quitting and launching elery.co, two months before the pandemic shut down everything. I feel proud that my cofounder and I were able to identify major opportunities to transform healthcare in Mexico and Latin America and that we were courageous (or crazy) enough to start this adventure.

In the spirit of giving and receiving, what do you seek from this network and what do you want to contribute?

The purpose of elery.co, and my own, is to ensure that every single Latin American has access to high quality specialty care at a fair price. I’m very interested in connecting with anyone working in healthcare in LatAm: pharma, providers, payers, research… I believe that we can collaborate to improve the lives of millions of people, and do it in a profitable and conscious way.

What is a fun fact about you that you’d like to share with the network?

I live more than 2,000 miles away from our nearest clinic. The pandemic and working remotely actually helped us to develop Work-From-Anywhere tools and processes since day one.
