Cheyenne Van Cooten (She/Hers) is an award-winning Afro-Latina tech leader, speaker and educator. Currently, she serves as a global inclusion, diversity and equity Leader at Amazon Web Services (AWS). In her role, she leads ID&E strategies across the startups and worldwide commercial sales organizations. Cheyenne partners with senior leaders, human resources teams, managers, and business resource groups to develop data-driven solutions to address gaps and foster a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. She also partners on ID&E initiatives to engage local communities and support underrepresented founders.
She proudly volunteers as a mentoring circle facilitator for the Red Shoe Movement, a Latina-led company dedicated to the career and leadership development of women globally and has volunteered as a former charla host and presenter for the Hispanic Heritage Foundation.
Prior to joining AWS, Cheyenne lived in Silicon Valley where she served as a diversity and inclusion leader for the global marketing solutions (GMS) organization at Facebook (Meta). She partnered with senior leaders to lead ID&E strategies to hire, develop, and retain underrepresented talent and co-founded the first global Afro-Latinx business resource group.
Cheyenne started her human resources career in media and entertainment working within talent development and HRBP roles at MTV Networks, Thomson Reuters, BET Networks, and Nielsen Media. She has 15+ years of human capital consulting and human resources specialty experience across various industries including the National Organization on Disability. Cheyenne is passionate about adult learning and investing in our next generation of leaders and has taught fundamentals of professional advancement and public speaking courses at LaGuardia Community College and Baruch College.
In 2019, Cheyenne was awarded the BMW Ultimate Drive Maestro Award by Latino Leaders magazine and is a highly rated City University of New York (CUNY) adjunct lecturer. She is an expert speaker, trainer, and facilitator and has presented to thousands of leaders, managers, and employees globally, including at AWS Summits and the AWS re:Invent cloud computing conference.
Cheyenne is a certified Brain-Based Executive Coach through the NeuroLeadership Institute and received a BA in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz and an MA in Social-Organizational Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and currently lives in Scarsdale with her partner.
