Meet Margarita Womack

An ongoing series from The Alumni Society spotlighting its impressive members

Alma mater: Columbia | Location: New York City

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in a small coastal city in Mexico: Tampico, Tamaulipas.

What do you do?

I’m a white collar investigations lawyer at a big, international law firm. I advise clients in government investigations, enforcement proceedings, and regulatory enquiries brought by the Department of Justice (DOJ), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and other regulatory agencies. I also have experience representing clients in cross-border civil disputes, including successfully defending Argentina’s largest energy producer against claims for roughly $15 billion in damages and prejudgment interest.

What is a career accomplishment you’re proud of?

I recently joined the boards of Latino Justice and Hispanic National Bar Foundation, two nonprofits dedicated to advancing the rights of the Latino community. In the short time since I have joined both boards I have successfully advocated for my firm and other companies to sponsor these nonprofits, thereby guaranteeing that more Latinos are able to gain access to justice and increased opportunities.

In the spirit of giving and receiving, what do you seek from this network and what do you want to contribute?

I seek to develop mentorship relationships and provide the same. I want to develop a strong network among Latinos and also create strong friendships that I hope will last a long time!

What is a fun fact about you that you’d like to share with the network?

Despite growing up with zero exposure to American football, I became a huge fan in recent years and read The Athletic religiously. Go Birds!
