Meet Fernando Espino Casas

An ongoing series from The Alumni Society spotlighting its impressive members

Alma mater: Harvard | Location: Redwood City (San Francisco Bay Area)

Where are you from?

I was born outside of Mexico City, but I was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Both my parents are from Mexico (Zacatecas and Mexico City).

What do you do?

I am an associate at McKinsey & Company in their digital and analytics practice based out of their Silicon Valley office.

What is a career accomplishment you’re proud of?

Prior to business school, I worked at Momentive AI (formerly SurveyMonkey) as a UX researcher, but given my market research consultant experience, I took on a lead product role to design and ultimately launch a standalone research solution for this niche yet valuable customer segment.

In the spirit of giving and receiving, what do you seek from this network and what do you want to contribute?

I’m most interested in connecting with those who are doing innovative work at early/growth stage startups that are bringing digital transformation to legacy industries, underinvested communities, and underrepresented minorities.

As someone who has spent years trying to figure out my next career opportunities, I’m happy to provide a sounding board for others who are wrestling with those same questions, especially those early in your career. For anyone wondering whether grad school or a career pivot makes sense, I’d be glad to lend a listening ear and advice.

What is a fun fact about you that you’d like to share with the network?

I was a competitive ballroom dancer in college, traveling around the country to compete in all 19 ballroom dances, from waltz to samba, and everything in between. The opportunities to dance are quite as plentiful as before, but I try to take advantage whenever possible!
