Vice President, Product Engineering

The mission of the Vice President, Product Engineering is to aggressively lead and champion our cloud migration strategy while building innovative and mission driven applications to continue to engage real time with our 60 million customers worldwide. This person will play a critical role in helping to transform the existing agile environment to enable our software development teams to be more self- efficient and to deliver code without fear. Capital One is the first major financial services company to leverage the Public Cloud as a primary infrastructure provider and this leader will continue our cloud migration efforts to be 90% on the public cloud by 2020.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with industry leading software engineering teams to enable the creation of very progressive financial management tools that go out to our end users and customers. You will be able to work with the latest and greatest innovative technology and be actively involved in the open source community. In this highly visible role, you will be viewed as an industry leader in technology transformation and serve in the role of evangelist for Capital One and consultant to a variety of other industries interested in learning more about what we are doing. As we continue to transform into a software company, this executive will play a critical role in that process.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and implement the technology strategy for our major flagship products (Quicksilver/Venture)
- Build upon our successes in agile to empower teams to be more self-sufficient and deliver code without fear
- Direct accountability for 20-25 high-performing sprint teams (140-175 engineers)
- Lead and enhance our cloud migration efforts
- Operationally manage the delivery platforms as well as champion for new innovative technology
- Manage the due diligence and integration of recent and future acquisitions
- Maintain and build upon the existing relationships with a highly engaged client
- Enhance the existing framework and mindset around performance management and recruiting
The Person
The successful candidate will be a seasoned technology professional with passion for transformation. He/she will consider it a personal mission to stay current on industry trends and leading technologies and have a burning desire to bring about transformation. Ideally this individual will have experience within a mid-sized to larger company, within organizations that are heavily engineering and consumer focused. He/she will have transformation experience, taking legacy infrastructure systems and moving them the cloud (public or private). This individual will have come from a company that has adopted a strong agile culture and has experience in cloud technologies as well as a good working knowledge of DevOps. This person will have a proven track record of being able to identify top technical talent and inspire and manage through change. He/she will also have a proven ability to operate effectively in a complex, and evolving environment. He or she will have a demonstrated ability to develop a vision, drive and manage the execution of that vision, and deliver top-tier results. The successful candidate will exhibit excellent leadership skills to leverage the capabilities of peers, business partners, and associates, and should possess the confidence and poise to influence the executive leadership team and various internal stakeholders. Strong business judgment, strategic orientation and communication skills are essential. Similarly, important are an attention to detail, good team dynamics, and an ability to work independently as needed.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field.
- 12+ years’ experience in software engineering with experience in a modern agile environment orat a minimum have an appreciate for modern agile.
- At least 5 years of executive technology leadership experience
- Experience with leading edge technologies
- Experience working within digitally savvy companies
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business
- Proven track record of leading large scale integrations
- Experience managing the tech strategy for an organization’s flagship product
- Strong track record of leading a groups cloud migration strategy
Compensation
To attract the right individual, Capital One is prepared to offer a competitive compensation package, which will include a base salary and cash bonus, as well as long term incentives (restricted stock, options and performance based shares).
